About Me

A look into the deep, inner psyche of Neil Barry, founder of The Science Journal

It's hard to truly know a person just by reading a short, little bio on a website you most likely stumbled upon by accident. Nevertheless, I ought to give it a shot. For those of you who have never heard of me, I'm Neil Barry, author and total science fiction nerd (if you couldn't already tell). I was born and raised in Freeport, Kansas, literally the middle of nowhere, and now live in Salt Lake City, Utah with my wife and two kids, Julia and Tanner. They're the second most important part of my life, besides science fiction of course.

You may be wondering how a boy growing up in the boon-docks could have ended up a two-time Hugo and Nebula Award winner. The answer is this: I literally had nothing else to do with my time besides read and write. I wasn't a sporty child, much too uncoordinated for that, so I exercised my imagination instead, spending all my time developing imaginary worlds in my head. Thank goodness this "weird quirk," as my parents called it, that "he will eventually grow out of" paid off in the end.

So there you have it: a sneak peek into my complicated mind. Judging by the fact that you are still reading this, I hopefully haven't scared you off just yet. If so, thank you for taking some time out of your own head to take a look into mine for a while. Happy reading!
